The solid waste from the construction industry has a huge impact on the environment and has a large
volume. Often this residue is not disposed of properly. The objective of this work was to address
several stages of waste management in construction and its implications for the environment. the
generation, classification, management and recycling were described with regard to construction
waste, the technical, economic and legal instruments and propositions for integrated solid waste
management were identified. The research was bibliographical and descriptive. The contact with
articles published in scientific journals on the subject, dissertations in the area and authors that
approach the theme chosen in this work, provided a basis for the academic reflection and to discover
answers to the questions that were raised. All sectors involved in any phase of the construction
process are responsible for preventing and reducing the amount of waste generated in order to avoid
environmental problems in the future. In this way, it is necessary to seek to reduce the generation of
solid waste in civil construction, which is the main route to be carried out.
